The locals knew Benny as the lonely old man with money, who retired in Mexico. He was a quirky old man, often heard singing on the beach. No one knew about his past or his life before Mexico, although they knew he was American. He often spent his days alone. He had a house, boat, car, and always spent a lot of money when he came to town, yet no one had seen him work or had ever seen any family. People were curious as to how he got all of this money, how wealthy he actually was, and who he really was. Some thought he used to be famous, some thought he was born into a wealthy family, and some thought he was a criminal on the run. No one knew, but the whole town was talking about it. One day, they noticed him packing some belongings on his boat, as if going on a trip. They could tell he would be gone for a while with the amount of stuff he was taking. It didn’t take long after he left for someone to try and break into his beach house and see what they could find. Inside, they found three large empty safes, empty cabinets, and Elvis memorabilia everywhere. They were confused. A note was left that read Elvis lives. To this day, the town is split on whether that was actually Elvis or a crazy old man.
