In collaboration with Holly Hunt, a pivotal American furniture maker based in Chicago, UIC students designed an expansive collection of experimental residential furniture.

An exhibition planned for New York’s International Furniture Fair with physical prototypes has moved to this virtual exhibition and online catalog due to the current circumstance. As physical building of the prototypes came to an abrupt halt, we came to face a unique challenge to finish each project without using real materials and shop tools. Using digital visualization tools, each student shifted the focus to finish the projects in high fidelity. Although much of the final design proposals are computer-generated images, each projects are developed through hands-on investigations. Materials experimentation, unique processes of fabrication, proper proportioning to human ergonomics and delivering a useable and aesthetic proposals are some common element among these collections.

We thank Holly Hunt and Design Director Alberto Velez for valuable insights and support.
