Letters are part of a puzzle waiting to be assembled into words. There are twenty-six letters in the Latin writing system, and the Oxford English Dictionary, the definitive source of the English language, contains 600,000 words, old and new. Imagine the configurative possibilities of just twenty-six letterforms that make up all those words. But we all know that words are difficult to pin down. A word’s definition only suggests what it means. I share my fascination with language to make a point about my work as a designer, to which word-play is central. I look for commonalities and differences between words comprised of the same letters. This content generates more content, in the form of short narratives. The language I assemble influences how I set about making work, how I journey into my subject, so to speak, creating design that is at once whimsical and dark, minimal and vibrant.
