Shadow

Vulnerability is a trait that shouldn’t be underestimated. It takes great strength to reveal to the world what you lack and how you continue to live to make it stronger. I choose to emphasize mental health awareness through my work in different types of media, including visuals and typography. Incorporating my language from my writing helps me create a design hybrid that one design concept cannot, alone, fully express. By combining these elements, I am able to use design to visually communicate about the experience of living with a mental illness. The use of media, such as this, helps viewers to develop empathy and understanding towards the nature of mental health. My goal, as a designer, is to help erase the stigma surrounding mental illness. By creating a metaphorical creature to represent mental illness, called a Shadow, its language interacts with the main protagonist suffering from its presence. However, by promoting a healthy connection, the protagonist can learn to heal and accept the decision to move forward.
