Broadcast Mania
Broadcast Mania
The world is broadcast. Whatever isn’t promulgated, reported, and advertised is, well, not considered “matter”, so not “of the world”,shall we say. We roam about in an environment saturated with images and verbiage against a background of white noise and static, and consume what is promulgated, reported, and advertised inattentively. It’s the norm. We don’t question it. Just go with the flow, believing our passivity has no adverse effect on our being, our psyche, our behaviors. As a designer (broadcaster of a different ilk), I confront these daily distractions head-on, focusing on what we hear but don’t listen to, and what we see but don’t absorb. My work illustrates—and, yes, amplifies—how the world’s incessant media messaging burrows into our minds and affects our choices down the line. I call it Broadcast Mania.
