Harmonia

In the ancient Greek religion, Harmonia was the immortal goddess of peace, harmony and concord. And naturally, the word harmony is of Greek origin from the stem – harmos, that literally means ‘joint’, and from there the noun harmonia ‘agreement, concord of sounds’. Focusing on the former, my main concept was to use multiple copies of a single module to create a mass and a surface by ‘joining’ them together. These surfaces and its mass then has given itself a purpose to serve its user whether if it’s a stool, a coffee table or a lounge chair. Using cylindrical shapes, my initial thought was to use wood as to create perfectly flat surfaces that are not exactly found in nature with its natural material. Flat perfectly cut surfaces on the top were then balanced with the rounded ends on the bottom to reduce friction and to give an impression of a softer mass at the same time. This play between natural and artificial then is taken further by joining them with a nylon weave band for it to retain its structure as a whole and to embrace the idea of bundling forms without any hiding and revealing its merging technique. This harmonious play between the natural and unnatural aspects of the furniture set will then add up a different dimension to one’s living space.
